The invention of the Poké Ball goes back 400 to 700 years before the classic era.

In the modern world of Pokémon, Poké Balls are created primarily by companies Silph Co.

However, prior to such mechanical mass production, the Poké Balls were originally created by Poké Ball experts from a strange fruit native to the Johto region called Apricorn.

One Poké Ball expert that a player may encounter in the game is Kurt.

Kurt Poké Ball Expert

Kurt resides in the Johto region and can be found on Gold, Silver, Crystal and HeartGold & SoulSilver games.

During the game, Kurt will offer to make the player Poké Balls as long as the player brings him the Apricorns.

There are seven different Apricorn colors a player can bring to Kurt, which are Green, Red, Blue, Black, Pink, White & Yellow.

With these, Kurt can craft Friend Ball, Level Ball, Lure Ball, Heavy Ball, Love Ball, Fast Ball & Moon Ball, respectively.

This is done by emptying Apricorn and mounting it with specialized energy capture devices.

Poké balls like Sam's red twisted-head Poké Ball appear in the opening of Celebi: Voice of The Forest, 40 years ago today, or Captain's ghost balls in episode A Shipful of

Poké Ball experts like Kurt think that the Poké Balls existed before mass production, but before that?

In the Pokémon Animated Series, there have been several artifacts and relics - some similar to the regular Poké Ball - that contain the Pokémon inside.

In Pokémon's Ancient Puzzle episode there are three ancient artifacts discovered in Pokémon containing a giant Alakazam, Gengar and Jigglypuff.

In the episode Battling The Enemy Within!

As mentioned earlier, modern Poké balls are mass produced by two Silph Co. companies.

These balls are made from Metal Case, Lock Bar and Release Button.

About the size of an orange, the modern Poké Ball can be scaled to the size of a golf ball by pressing the Release Button, which is convenient for storing multiple balls in a small space.

Your average average Poké ball weighs 5.53 ounces, measures 2.5 inches in diameter and is 7.85 inches in circumference.

Poké Ball stores and stores Pokémon through refraction of light energy in a Poké Ball.

This comes from an energy source placed at the bottom that refracts light from a series of small reflective glass panels held inside the Poké Ball's Metal Shell with copper pins.

The light energy refracted from these glass panels is something that can maintain the energy state of Pokémon in Poke Ball.

So there you have it, the origin of the ancient Poké Ball is somewhat still a mystery, although we know that in more recent history, the Poké Ball was designed by the experts of the Poké Ball from the fruit.

We also know that in modern Pokémon, Poké Balls are mostly produced by two companies, Silph Co.

And now we also know that the complicated process of refraction of light is the one used to store the energy of Pokémon in a Poké Ball.
